18th ANNUAL APRIL AWARD
The April Award was generously established by Dr. Marilyn (“Molly”) Hood to honor the memory of her longtime research assistant, April Lahm. Each year, one promising new professional in audience research and evaluation is selected to attend the annual Visitor Studies Association (VSA) conference. Now in it's 18th year, the Award recognizes the selected individual as an emerging leader, showing promise in the field, and leverages the conference as a unique opportunity to explore, learn, grow, and interact with a diverse and supportive community of visitor studies professionals.
The April Award includes a $500 travel stipend, waived conference registration fees, and a special event held in the recipient's honor during the annual conference.
Applications will be evaluated on the basis of their potential to contribute to the growth of VSA and the field of visitor studies. Only those who have not previously attended the annual conference are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to individuals from institutions that have not had representatives at the conference within the last three years.

The Visitor Studies Association Student Scholarship program promotes student participation in the VSA conference, where students may meet and interact with a diverse and supportive community of visitor studies professionals. Recipients of the Student Scholarship receive a waived conference registration fee for the up-coming VSA conference in Albuquerque, NM July 15-19. Student scholars are also provided with a small stipend (to help offset additional costs such as travel and attending workshops). Student scholars are included and acknowledged in various ways throughout the conference, with the overarching goal of providing students with an exceptional conference experience.
A limited number of student scholarships are available each year to current students who are VSA members. Applications will be evaluated on the basis of the applicant’s potential to contribute to the growth of VSA and the field of visitor studies. Preference will be given to individuals who have not been to a VSA conference before, however all students are eligible to apply.
