Presenter Bios

Here are bios for a few past presenters.

Saul Rockman

Saul RockmanSaul is president of Rockman et al, an independent evaluation, research, and consulting firm focusing on studies of education, technology, and media. The company works with preschool, K-12, postsecondary and adult educational institutions in formal education, as well as with broadly educational initiatives having a wide community or consumer audience, such as museums, after-school programs, and public media. For more than 30 years, Rockman has designed and conducted formative and summative evaluation on a variety of formal and informal education projects. These evaluations have covered a wide range of media such as radio, television, websites, museum exhibits, interactive instructional materials, and print. Saul Rockman established Rockman et al in 1990 after leaving the education marketing group of Apple Computer where he was manager of education research. While at Apple, Rockman disseminated research findings on the impact of computers for learning and helped Apple establish partnerships with educational organizations for national technology policy development. Prior to joining Apple, Rockman was director of technology programs at WestEd in San Francisco, California. Saul did his doctoral work at Indiana University, Bloomington in mass communications and research methodology.

Dr. Joe E. Heimlich

Dr. Joe HeimlichJoe is known for his work in teaching-learning exchange theory across the lifespan, especially program evaluation in adult learning in free-choice environmental and conservation institutions. Joe is a specialist in OSUExtension@COSI where he facilitates organizational development around visitor learning and engagement and conducts evaluation and research studies for zoos, parks, nature centers, science centers, and museums. He is a Senior Research Associate with the Institute for Learning Innovation in Edgewater, Maryland and a faculty member in the School of Environment and Natural Resources and the Environmental Science Graduate Program at The Ohio State University. Dr. Heimlich holds a doctorate in Adult Education and Learning Theory from The Ohio State University; a B.A. in Communication Arts, Theatre and Dance, and a M.A. in Policy Education. He has authored three books, edited three focused editions of academic journals, and authored twelve chapters in edited books, numerous academic journal articles and more than 300 popular publications. Joe serves on numerous national and international committees and boards including the Scientific Committee for the World EE Congresses, the UNESCO DESD Research Agenda team, and is a past-president of the North American Association for Environmental Education.
