In this mini course we will review the fundamentals of interpretation before diving into how to evaluate the effectiveness of interpretive messages through guided reflections and discussions with your peers and colleagues. In this course you will: Learn how to identify when interpretive communication is working well Practice evaluating the effectiveness of interpretive messages Learning objectives: Identify key characteristics of successful interpretation for your organization (or clients). Understand how to use Sam Ham’s Zone of Tolerance to evaluate interpretive messages. Open to all VSA members and non-members. This is a 1 hour and 45 minute mini course.

Presenter:
Tara Miller (BFA, MSc) is a Visitor Study Consultant based in Vancouver, Canada. She has nearly a decade of experience in heritage interpretation, including over five years at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site and an MSc in Interpretation. Tara specializes in evaluating the effectiveness of interpretive programs, products and experiences. She blends years of experience in interpretation, visitor services, science communication and performing arts together to guide organizations through the visitor study process.
