Art Bridges Foundation, the vision of philanthropist and arts patron Alice Walton, delivers access to meaningful experiences with art for personal and community well-being through art sharing and community engagement programs. Since 2017, we have partnered with a growing network of nearly 400 museums of many sizes across the United States and its territories, providing financial and strategic support for artwork loans, traveling exhibitions, and transformative programming designed to educate, inspire, deepen engagement with diverse audiences, and highlight interdisciplinary connections.

Our commitment to access extends to empowering our museum partners with insightful, actionable data and resources. Guided by a belief in the power of evaluation to drive meaningful change across the field, we support research and evaluation activities that allow museums to better understand their visitors, measure program impact, and make responsive, evidence-based decisions. COVES Fullcolor spot WS

The Collaboration for Ongoing Visitor Experience Studies (COVES) unites museum professionals in a deeper understanding of their visitors through data. Using a standardized measurement tool and systematic data collection methods to collect data, we facilitate a vibrant Community of Practice that seeks to elevate our understanding and use of visitor experience data to inform and improve museum practices.

COVES asks questions about who visits, why they visit, what they see and do during their visit, and how they feel about their experiences. By utilizing a shared measure and common practices, we provide reliable benchmarking for members to contextualize their understanding of the data. With dedicated resources and a collaborative approach to meaning-making, COVES supports many types of visitor-serving organizations including science centers, zoos and aquariums, and art, children’s, history, natural history, and specialized museums.
